Cloud PBX Self-service

Zoom Phone
SIP setup

Zoom Phone added BYOD (they call it 'Provisioned SIP Device') in 2023. Full self-service in the Zoom web portal.

Plan: Available on Pro and Business. You need the 'Phone System Management' role.

Five to ten minutes

  1. 01

Sign in to Zoom web portal

Go to zoom.us/signin with an account that has Phone System Management privileges.

Zoom web portal after login, phone module visible
  2. 02

Phone System Management → Phones & Devices

In the left nav, expand Phone System Management, click Phones & Devices, then the 'User Phones' tab.

Phones & Devices, User Phones tab
  3. 03

    Add → Generic SIP Device

Click Add, then pick Device Type: Generic → Other (BYOD). Name the device 'SoloDial AI' so it's obvious later.

Device Type dropdown with Generic > Other highlighted
  4. 04

Assign to the target user / extension

Assign the device to the extension you want the AI to answer for. Zoom will generate an authentication password.

    Assignment step with extension picker
  5. 05

Copy credentials from the 'Provision' tab

After creation, click the device, open the Provision tab. Copy: Authentication ID (SIP user), Password (SIP password), Outbound Proxy (registration URL, usually something like sip.zoom.us or a regional subdomain).

Provision tab with all three fields and copy icons
Watch out for
  • Zoom Phone requires TLS + SRTP, not plain UDP. SoloDial supports both; make sure the SIP extension config has 'TLS' selected as the transport.
  • Zoom's Outbound Proxy can differ from the SIP Domain. Use the Outbound Proxy value as the registration URL to avoid regional mis-routing.
